Candidate Style Watch : Lougheed the Barbarian

Undeniably, everyone loves a good barbarian. I hear that in the 60’s or 70’s or sometime prior to my birth (a time period I affectionately refer to as “unimportant”) patrons of the cinema and comic book fanboys alike were thrilled by “Conan the Barbarian”. I myself will admit to partaking in the odd “Hagar the Horrible” comic strip on a Saturday morning, and who can forget the barbarian-esque, yet oddly incestuous, adventures of He-Man and She-Ra? However, to my knowledge, none of these barbarians ever chose to wear a wet carpet to a public event. I know, I know sometimes you just can’t be bothered to get dressed up, and I’m going to take a wild guess here and consider that maybe “wet carpet” is for barbarians what “sweat pants” are to the rest of us, but there really is a line. This, combined with Lougheed the barbarian’s admirable commitment to reaching the little talked about canine constituency here at UBC, made me long for a simpler time, when candidates were simply incompetent, but at least wore pants. Though to be honest, it would be remiss to not acknowledge that ,even while wearing what appears to be the contents of the dumpster found behind Ali Baba’s House of a thousand rugs, Lougheed still manages to keep his unmentionables covered better than Britney Spears.
